Context in which the Division operates
This page describes the context of the Bankstown GP Division.
The Australian Government Divisions of General Practice program
The Bankstown GP Division is located in south west Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia.
The Bankstown GP Division is primarily funded through the Australian federal Government’s Department of Health and Ageing Divisions of General Practice program.
The purpose of the Divisions of General Practice Program (the Divisions Program) is to provide services and support to general practice at the local level, through Divisions of General Practice, to achieve health outcomes for the community that would not otherwise be achieved on an individual GP basis.
GPs are not bound to goverment funding boundaries. All GPs and practices may choose to attend CPD events and join any Division based on their individual needs and personal preferences. Participation in our activities is open to all GPs and other health professionals, regardless of postcode of practice or area of residence.
The Divisions infrastructure also provides a valuable mechanism for informing and educating GPs and practice staff about changes to programs, services and new initiatives for continuous quality improvement. It allows GPs a representative voice with local health services planning and other health agencies.
The Divisions network comprises the Australian General Practice Network, State Based Organisations and local Divisions of General Practice, such as Bankstown GP Division.
